The International Black Pudding Festival, Mortagne-au-Perche

It started in the 60s when a local mechanic & pudding fan organised a black pudding challenge.  There were eight competitors.  Now around 800 turn up from across Europe to do boudin battle at this prestige event.  It even has a dedicated fraternity with their very own robes: the Brotherhood of Black Pudding Knights.  Very serious is the business of judging and eating boudin, but if you want to opt out, there’s plenty more on offer from Normandy’s famous cuisine.  Amid the highlights, be sure not to miss the fierce cook-off between local chefs and celebrity rivals, many from Michelin-starred restaurants across France.
